Valentine's Biscotti

Valentine’s day calls for heart-shaped sweets. And here are some delicious biscotti, also ideal for any day of the year and in any shape you prefer!

The recipe is a simple “pasta frolla”, the Italian version of a shortbread cookie, enriched by tiny chocolate chips. It makes a big batch, so you will have plenty of cookies for yourself and to give away as a gift to your friends.

These biscotti are ideal to be dipped in milk or coffee…even better in Cappucino!

  • 2 ¾ cup of all purpose flour - sifted

  • 1 ¼ stick of butter ( 10 tbsp)

  • ½ cup of sugar

  • A pinch of salt

  • 2 tsp of cocoa powder

  • 1 egg

  • 2 egg yolks

  • 1 tsp of baking powder

  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract

  • ½ cup of mini chocolate chips

  1. First of all, place the chocolate chips in the freezer. This will help them maintain their shape while baking.

  2. Using a mixer, beat butter and sugar until obtaining a pale ivory mixture. You can also do it in a large bowl using a whisk…you will get an amazing arm workout lol

  3. Add the egg, egg yolks, vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Mix for a couple of minutes more.

  4. Add flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Knead (in the mixer or by hand) until you obtain a uniform dough. Be careful though to not overmix. Stop as soon as the dough comes together.

  5. At this point add the chocolate chips, reserving a small handful to decorate the surface at the end, just before baking.

  6. Fold the chocolate chips in the dough trying to distribute them homogeneously.

  7. At this point, flatten the dough into a rectangular shape and wrap it in cling film. Let rest in the fridge for about 3 hours.

  8. Once the time has passed, take your dough from the fridge and place it on a flat lightly floured surface.

  9. Preheat the oven to 360* and lay two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  10. With the help of a rolling pin, flatten the dough until it is more or less ¼ inch thick.

  11. With the help of a cookie cutter, start to form the cookies and place them in the baking tray, leaving a little space between them.

  12. Once you shape all the dough, bake for 15 minutes. Let the biscotti cool off and enjoy them with your favorite coffee, and people!
